Italy has historically been a manufacturer of press brakes and panel benders.
Despite a clear (but little perceived) market need, there has never been an Italian manufacturer of tangential bending machines, a technology that is very widespread in Northern Europe.
Our goal is precisely this: to also bring the use of the tangential bending machine to our country, given the countless production benefits that using this type of machinery brings to the processing of sheet metal up to 6 mm thick.
On paper it may seem like this, but in reality things are different because it is an investment with a higher return, in many respects.
Let's take a practical example:
Let's say you need to bend/flatten a 2000 x 1000 mm sheet of iron, 3 mm thick.
With classic press-bending you need:
- A press brake with specific power (minimum 4 meters * 220 tons)
- 2 people (1 operator + 1 companion)
- Specific tools for the desired fold (radius, Z, etc.)
With tangential bending you will need:
- Standard machinery
- A single person (and not necessarily a specialist)
- No additional tools required (the machine is automatically programmed and is already equipped)
As you can see, a tangential bending machine, unlike a press brake, does not require two people and does not require the use of special tools, which are direct costs that must be taken into account in the production cycle.
Added to this is increased productivity and safety.
For all this, a tangential bending machine does NOT cost more than a press brake.
Absolutely yes!
Tangential press brakes are fully electric machines which, unlike traditional hydraulic press brakes, do not require OIL.
This translates to:
- Lower energy consumption
- Greater precision
- SIGNIFICANTLY reduced running costs
In reality, despite the advanced technology that characterizes them, tangential bending machines have the peculiarity of being extremely simple to use , so much so that they do not require any particular specialization to be able to be used, even for more complex processes, unlike press brakes.
This is why, regardless of the size of the sheet metal to be bent, just one operator is always sufficient.
There is NO such thing as the absolute perfect machine.
However, there is the possibility of inserting the perfect machine (or machines if necessary) for you into your sheet metal working production cycle.
It all depends on the ability to thoroughly analyze the manufacturing process and identify them, and that's what we at EVOMACH are good at doing and do every day.
It’s true that the initial investment for a press brake may be lower, but the total cost of ownership must be considered:
Additional personnel required
Higher energy costs
Longer setup times
Lower productivity
The need for specific tools for different operations
In the long run, tangential bending often proves to be more cost-effective and profitable.
Our experience shows the opposite. Tangential bending is more intuitive and requires less specialization. In many cases, new operators with no prior experience learn faster than those with years of press brake experience, precisely because they don’t have “bad habits” to unlearn.
Tangential bending has specific limits in terms of thickness and length. It is ideal for thicknesses up to 12 mm with variable blade press brakes and up to 3 mm with panel benders. If most of your production exceeds these limits, a mixed solution may be necessary, or you may need to stick with press brake bending.
Typically, it takes about 3–4 months from order confirmation to delivery, depending on the model and configuration. Installation usually takes 3–5 days, followed by 3–4 days of training. Within two weeks of installation, the machine is fully operational.
